The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has released the official notification for 13,487 Junior Engineer posts and other posts including Depot Material Superintendent (DMS) and Chemical & Metallurgical Assistant (CMA) on 29th December 2018. The vacancies are available under various departments of different zones of Indian Railways. The application process has started on 2nd January and will continue till 31st January 2019. Educational Qualification

  • A candidate should have 3 years Engineering Diploma from a recognised University/institute in any one of the subjects – Mechanical/Production Engineering/Electrical/Electronics/Manufacturing/Tools & Die Making/Mechatronics/ Industrial/Machining/Automobile/Instrumentation & Control/Tools & Machining/Civil Engineering.
  • Detailed information on educational qualification is available in Annexure-A of the official notification.
  • Please Note: As per the official notification, “Those awaiting results of the final examination of the prescribed educational/technical qualification SHOULD NOT apply.”

Age Limit

  • As on 1st January 2019, the applicant should not be less than 18 years and should not be more than 33 years of age.

Application Fee Payment

Candidates are required to pay the application fee as per their category:

Important₹ 400 for unreserved category and ₹ 250 for the reserved categories will be refunded (after deducting applicable bank charges) after the candidates appear for the 1st stage CBT.

Mode of Payment

Application fee can be paid through the following modes:

  • Net Banking/Credit card/Debit card
  • Payment through e-challan at SBI branches
  • Payment through Post office by generating e-challan

RRB JE Exam Paper Language –

English will be the default language for the question paper. Candidates will also be given choice for selecting other languages. These languages are:

RRB JE Exam 2019 Pattern & Syllabus

RRB JE recruitment process will be conducted through the following stages:

  • Computer Based Test (1st Stage)
  • Computer Based Test (2nd Stage)
  • Document Verification/Medical Examination (as applicable)

Negative Marking: There will be a provision of negative marking in both the CBTs. 1/3rd of the marks allotted to any question will be deducted for the wrong answer.

RRB JE Pattern and Syllabus (1st Stage CBT)

The first stage CBT will comprise of 100 objective type questions with multiple choices. The duration of the test will be 90 minutes (120 minutes for PwBD candidates accompanied with Scribe). Questions will be from the following areas:

There might be some variation in the number of questions in the actual paper.

Mathematics: Number systems, BODMAS, Fraction, Decimal, Square Root, Ratio and Proportion, LCM and HCF, Profit and Loss, Percentages, Algebra, Mensuration, Time and Distance, Time and Work, Simple and Compound Interest, Age Calculations, Trigonometry, Geometry, Pipes & Cistern, and Calendar & Clock.

General Intelligence & Reasoning: Alphabetical and Number Series, Analogies, Mathematical operations, Coding and Decoding, Relationships, Jum-bling, Syllogism, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Similarities and Differences, Conclusions and Decision Making, Analytical reasoning, Directions, Classification, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.

General Awareness: Knowledge of Current affairs, culture and history of India including freedom struggle, Indian geography, Indian Economy, Indian Polity and constitution, Environmental issues concerning India and the World, General scientific and technological developments, Sports etc.

General Science: Chemistry, Physics, and Life Sciences (up to CBSE 10th Syllabus)

Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories: UR -40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, ST -25%. These percentage
of marks for eligibility may be relaxed by 2% for PwBD candidates in case of shortage of PwBD candidates against vacancies

RRB JE Pattern and Syllabus (2nd Stage CBT)

150 objective type questions with multiple choices will be asked in the second stage CBT. The maximum duration of the exam is 120 minutes. Here is the section-wise distribution for the number of questions:

c) Basics of Computers and Applications:
Architecture of Computers; input and Output devices; Storage devices, Networking, Operating System like Windows, Unix,
Linux; MS Office; Various data representation; Internet and Email; Websites & Web Browsers; Computer Virus.
d) Basics of Environment and Pollution Control:
Basics of Environment; Adverse effect of environmental pollution and control strategies; Air, water and Noise pollution, their
effect and control; Waste Management, Global warming; Acid rain; Ozone depletion.
