Eligible Items
Gyan Post is perfect for sending books and materials prescribed for:
- Correspondence or regular academic courses.
- Recognized boards and universities.
- Competitive exams.
- Literature of social, cultural, or religious nature, as per law.
Conditions for Transmission
- No regular interval publications (e.g., magazines).
- The inscription “Gyan Post” is mandatory on the package.
- No commercial or advertisement content is allowed (only incidental mentions).
- The printer or publisher’s name must be included.
- No handwritten or photocopied content, except for permitted markings.
- Only invoices or bills specifically for the sent publications are allowed.
- The address of both the sender and receiver is mandatory.
- All items are subject to inspection.
- Non-compliance will result in the item being treated as an India Post Parcel with a double deficiency charge.
- No personal letters are allowed.

Booking Procedure
Presentation:
- Present your item at the POS counter with complete sender and receiver details (including PIN).
- Counter personnel will check for compliance.
Language:
- Regional languages are accepted, but details will be entered in English in the system.
Payment:
- Postage plus any optional service fees will be collected.
Receipts:
- You’ll receive a two-part receipt: one for your records and one pasted on the item.
- Only official stationery with the Department logo is used.
Proof of Delivery:
- Sender must pay the fee and attach a filled form marked “proof of delivery due.”
Transmission
All Gyan Post items are transmitted as Parcel Post. A registered item barcode is used for tracking purposes.
Delivery Procedure
(A) Receiving at Delivery Office:
- A physical check of the bag and items is conducted.
- The system is updated by scanning the Bag ID and item barcodes.
(B) Issuance to Postman:
- Items invoiced beat-wise.
- The postman receives a delivery manifest.
(C) Delivery to Addressee:
- The signature of the receiver is taken upon delivery.
- A mobile app is used for digital signatures where available.
(D) Window Delivery:
- Items can also be collected at the post office window upon satisfactory proof of identity.
Return & Undelivered Items
- Returned items are recorded by the PA (Postal Assistant).
- Proof of Delivery is retained and verified.
- If the POD is lost, a certificate is issued free by the Postmaster after verification.

Undelivered & Refused Items
Items that are unclaimed, refused, or otherwise undeliverable are:
- Put into deposit.
- Redirected or returned to the sender.
- If the sender is untraceable, they are sent to the RLO (Returned Letter Office) with a proper list.
Supervisor’s Role
- Verifies all documents (both at booking and delivery).
- Ensures records and processes are followed correctly.
- Accountable for overall branch operations.
