Short answer: For the 2026 AP Police Constable (SCT PC Civil and AR) recruitment, men need a minimum height of 167.6 cm and a chest of 86.3 cm with 5 cm expansion. Women need 152.5 cm height and 40 kg weight. Aboriginal ST candidates from agency areas get lower limits. These figures are from the SLPRB AP notification dated 16.09.2026.
This page lists every physical standard in that notification: height, chest, weight, eye test, and the running and jump events that follow. Read the official SLPRB AP notification (PDF) once yourself, and check the SLPRB recruitments page for any corrigendum.
What is the minimum height for AP Police Constable men and women in 2026?
Short answer: Men must be at least 167.6 centimetres tall. Women must be at least 152.5 centimetres tall. Candidates who belong to Aboriginal Scheduled Tribes (ABO-ST) in the listed agency areas need 160 cm (men) or 150 cm (women). The notification gives no other height relaxation.
| Candidate | Minimum height | Chest / weight |
|---|---|---|
| Men (post codes 21, 22, 42, 53) | 167.6 cm | Chest 86.3 cm on full inspiration, expansion at least 5 cm |
| Women (post codes 21, 22, 54) | 152.5 cm | Weight at least 40 kg |
| ABO-ST men, agency areas | 160 cm | Chest 80 cm on full inspiration, expansion at least 3 cm |
| ABO-ST women, agency areas | 150 cm | Weight at least 38 kg |
Post code 21 is Stipendiary Cadet Trainee (SCT) Police Constable (Civil). Post code 22 is SCT Police Constable (AR). The same height rule also applies to Firemen (code 42) and Warders (codes 53 and 54) in the same notification.
What are the chest and weight rules for AP Police Constable?
Short answer: Men are measured for chest: at least 86.3 cm round the chest on full inspiration, with an expansion of at least 5 cm. Women are measured for weight instead: at least 40 kg. Women are not given a chest test in this notification.
"Full inspiration" means the chest measured when you breathe in fully. "Expansion" is the difference between the full-breath and the normal measure. So a man at 86.3 cm on full inspiration must also show at least 5 cm of expansion to pass. Both conditions apply together.
What relaxation do Aboriginal ST candidates get in agency areas?
Short answer: Aboriginal Scheduled Tribe candidates from the agency areas of six districts get lower limits. Men need 160 cm height and 80 cm chest with 3 cm expansion. Women need 150 cm height and 38 kg weight. You must show a residence certificate from the competent authority.
The six districts named in the notification are Vizianagaram, Anakapalli, Polavaram, Alluri Sitharamaraju (ASR), Eluru and Parvathipuram Manyam. The notification asks these candidates to bring the agency-area residence certificate when they attend the PMT and PET. No other category (BC, SC, EWS, ex-servicemen or sportspersons) is given a lower height or chest limit in the notification.
How are height and chest measured in the PMT?
Short answer: The Physical Measurements Test (PMT) uses a digital measurement system. Height is taken while you stand upright in the correct position. Only candidates who qualify in the Preliminary Written Test are called for the PMT. You must carry the original certificates, plus one attested set of copies, on that day.
The PMT comes before the Physical Efficiency Test (PET). If you do not meet the PMT limits, you do not go on to the PET. Check the intimation letter for your venue, date and time, and download it from the SLPRB website.

What are the PET standards after the PMT?
Short answer: For post code 21, men and women must qualify in the 1600 m run, and in one of the 100 m run or the long jump. General men need 8 minutes, 15 seconds and 3.80 m. Women need 10 minutes 30 seconds, 18 seconds and 2.75 m. This test only qualifies you.
| Event | General | Ex-Servicemen | Women |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1600 m run | 8 min | 9 min 30 sec | 10 min 30 sec |
| 100 m run | 15 sec | 16.5 sec | 18 sec |
| Long jump | 3.80 m | 3.65 m | 2.75 m |
Post code 22 (AR) is different. These candidates must qualify in all three events, and the events carry 100 marks (40 for the 1600 m run, 30 for the 100 m run and 30 for the long jump). Those marks are added to the final written exam marks. The events use electronic timing, spike shoes are not allowed, and there is no second chance or re-test once an event is held.
What eye and medical standards apply to AP Police Constable?
Short answer: Each eye needs distant vision of 6/6 and near vision of 0/5 (Snellen), with a full field of vision. Colour blindness, squint or any morbid eye condition is a disqualification. Candidates must also be free of the bodily defects listed in the notification.
- Not accepted: physically handicapped candidates.
- Not accepted: knock-knees, pigeon chest, flat feet, varicose veins, hammer toes, fractured limbs, decayed teeth, stammering, hard of hearing and abnormal psychological behaviour.
The notification advises candidates to be examined by a Civil Surgeon before applying, to avoid disappointment later.
What is the selection order for AP Police Constable 2026?
Short answer: The order is: Preliminary Written Test, then PMT, then PET, then the Final Written Examination. The preliminary test has 200 questions in three hours. Qualifying marks are 40% for OC, 35% for BC and 30% for SC/ST. Final selection for code 21 is on the final written marks.
For posts 21 and 22 the age limit is 18 to 24 years as on 1 July 2026 (born between 2 July 2002 and 1 July 2008), with relaxations given in the notification. The minimum education is Intermediate (SC/ST candidates may qualify with SSC plus Intermediate studied and appeared, as stated in the notification). The exact dates to apply will be announced by SLPRB in a separate press release, so watch the official site.
How can I prepare for the physical tests?
Short answer: First check your height and chest against the limits above. Then train for the 1600 m run, because it is the one event every candidate must clear. Practise on a track and note your time every week, and aim to finish well inside the limit for your category.
- Get measured by a doctor or Civil Surgeon before you apply.
- Run 1600 m on a track at least twice a week and record the time.
- Practise the 100 m run and the long jump too. You may need to choose one of them.
- Keep your original certificates ready, because they are checked at the PMT.
